TreeBaltimore

TreeBaltimore serves as the umbrella organization for all City agencies, private organizations, and individuals in their effort to increase the tree canopy of Baltimore.

TreeBaltimore strives to increase the urban tree canopy through the establishment, management, and preservation of trees. TreeBaltimore is a mayoral initiative led by the Baltimore City of Recreation and Parks in partnership with Blue Water Baltimore, Baltimore Tree Trust, Flowering Tree Trail, many other tree minded groups, and individuals.

TreeKeepers

Baltimore TreeKeepers is TreeBaltimore’s free, city-wide tree stewardship program open to all city residents interested in helping Baltimore’s trees. As a Tree Keeper, you’ll learn how to help plant and care for trees on your street, in your neighborhood, around your schools, and in your parks. You’ll also join a growing community of people who care about Baltimore City’s tree canopy.

Weed Warriors

Baltimore City Weed Warriors is a city-wide program developed to maintain the health of Baltimore’s urban forest. Certified Weed Warriors are environmental stewards trained in non-native invasive (NNI) plant management for enhancing native ecosystems; they participate in citizen science and host stewardship events in parks all around the city to help protect natural areas, people, and biodiversity.

Baltimore Tree Trust

Baltimore Tree Trust has transitioned from neighborhood, volunteer based operations into Baltimore’s premier city-wide tree planting organization. With the support of the Baltimore City Forestry Division, the Tree Trust began to plant larger ball-and-burlap trees on an industrial scale aimed at connecting the city’s tree canopy across neighborhoods, all while engaging and educating residents on the importance of our urban forestry initiatives.

Baltimore Tree Trust Services:

  • New Tree Well Creation: Baltimore Tree Trusts concrete cutting team will create 4’x8′ tree wells in the right-of-way. When the job is completed, the wells will be ready for new trees.

  • Existing Tree Well Expansion: Baltimore Tree Trusts concrete cutting team will expand small tree wells in the right-of-way to better accommodate the size of a growing tree. The size of finished tree wells may vary. 

  • Tree Planting: Baltimore Tree Trusts tree planting crew will plant trees on public or private property. Though we will take species requests, ultimately our team of Neighborhood Foresters will determine the right tree for each location. 

  • Stump Grinding: Baltimore Tree Trusts stump grinding team will grind stumps down a maximum of one foot below ground level in an existing tree pit. Stumps are priced per every 12″ in diameter.

Blue Water Baltimore

Blue Water Baltimore’s mission is to restore the quality of Baltimore’s rivers, streams, and Harbor to foster a healthy environment, a strong economy, and thriving communities.

Tree Pruning

In the winter months when the trees are dormant, Blue Water Baltimore is out pruning trees that they planted throughout the year. Volunteers are always welcome to join them.

Street Tree Planting

In the spring and fall months, Blue Water is out planting street trees in different neighborhoods across the city to help improve the urban canopy coverage. Individual volunteers are always welcome to join them in their tree planting efforts.
