Organization: The Sixth Branch (T6B) is a community development nonprofit that has been serving in East Baltimore since 2010. Alongside a variety of greening projects in six different neighborhoods, our Community Farming and Urban Canopy work are the main pillars of our work.
From its origins as a community service club for veterans, T6B has evolved into a significant force for positive change, stewarding more than 20 acres of green space and providing volunteer and technical support to multiple community groups and schools. Our approach combines our values of true leadership — service, partnership, equity, impact, and sustainability — with the guidance of neighborhood leaders and the dedication of our volunteers.
Since our inception, more than 13,000 volunteers have contributed 44,000+ volunteer hours, valued at $1.3+ million, to the neighborhoods we serve. We’ve planted 300+ trees, grown and distributed more than 20,000 pounds of food and diverted more than 1,500 pounds of food waste through our composting program.
