Our Baltimore
mission
Cultivating equitable Baltimore neighborhoods through community partnership and environmental stewardship.
vision
We envision a Baltimore where all residents can thrive in deep connection with nature and community.
Our Story
Founded in 2010 by military veterans in Baltimore, The Sixth Branch (T6B) was born from a desire to transition from serving their country to serving their local community. Recognizing the opportunity to utilize their skills in the disinvested neighborhoods of East Baltimore, our founders embarked on a mission to revitalize the community for the benefit of all. This commitment to community service led to the establishment of T6B as a 501(c)(3) neighborhood development nonprofit.
T6B is dedicated to playing an active and transformative role in Baltimore's ecosystem of organizations and institutions serving its communities. Our aim is to raise, organize, and optimize resources to enhance health, well-being, connection, and growth in these neighborhoods.
What sets us apart is our deep commitment to the communities we serve, as affirmed by our long-standing partnerships.
From our origins as a community service club for veterans, T6B has evolved into a significant force for positive change, stewarding more than 20 acres of green space and providing volunteer and technical support to multiple community groups and schools. Our approach combines our values of true leadership — service, partnership, equity, impact, and sustainability — with the guidance of neighborhood leaders and the dedication of our volunteers.
Since our inception, more than 13,000 volunteers have contributed 44,000+ volunteer hours, valued at $1.3+ million, to the neighborhoods we serve. Our initiatives, such as building and operating community farms, planting and maintaining trees, and establishing and maintaining green spaces, are aimed at improving access to healthy food, expanding tree canopy coverage, and increasing access to nature for community members to enjoy. Through these efforts, we continue to advance our shared mission of cultivating equitable Baltimore neighborhoods through community partnerships and environmental stewardship.
