On February 4, 2012 The 6th Branch was joined yet again by Stevenson University students and their Alpha Kappa Alpha – Tau Theta Chapter. Another 4 tons of garbage was removed from streets and alleyway dumpsites and an enormous greenspace was landscaped. Before the event, project coordinator Ryan Stroup became the first of our volunteers to be awarded President Obama’s Volunteer Service Award. From October 1 to December 31 2011, Ryan volunteered more than 100 hours to Operation Oliver making the frequent two hour drive from his Pennsylvania home several times per week. There is now an obvious and measurable difference in the appearance of Oliver as the result of volunteers removing close to 55 tons of garbage in less than 6 months.
