Until several years ago, the site of Darley Park Gateway Park was a stretch of vacant lots where rowhomes once stood. In 2012, the community began to reclaim the space for public use. In the years since, community members and The 6th Branch have worked hard to turn the space into a play area and park. From 2015 to the present, the project leveraged over 4,300** volunteer hours through weekly volunteer days. What was once a vacant lot is now a park with swings, a tire climb, planter boxes, a performance stage, and several murals.
To organize investment and leadership around the park, T6B is a founding member of the Darley Park Steering Committee, alongside neighborhood leaders, BUILD, the Neighborhood Design Center, MICA, Parks and People Foundation, and the Waterfront Partnership. Through this partnership, T6B secured a $50,000 bond bill from the State of Maryland for capital improvements to the park. Upcoming projects include the depaving and greening at several locations in the neighborhood, as well as contractors breaking ground for these capital improvements.
